Handshake is an app designed to help connect students with employers after graduation. By convincing universities to use the platform for their career fairs, Handshake has managed to make themselves an essential part of the recruitment process. As a result, the company has taken on funding from Spark Capital and Kleiner Perkins and been growing rapidly.
Handshake originally targeted iOS for their first platform, where a majority of US students were at the time. As their platform continued to expand into more colleges and Android continued to be a larger part of the mobile landscape, they knew they had to support Android users in order to continue their growth. However, they had built up a solid iOS team and wanted to focus on hiring more senior people for their product management team rather than focusing on Android directly at first.
QuarkWorks worked closely with the Handshake team to bring their iOS experience to Android and launch it on the Google Play store. We built out their Android mobile client from the ground up and helped them improve their backend in order to support both platforms simultaneously as well as handle even more users. We worked closely with their new product management team leads and existing iOS team in order to make sure that the Android experience was on par with their existing work. We also helped them source Android engineers and performed interviews in order to build up their team so that they are positioned for future success.
Handshake launched their new Android app at the start of the 2018 Fall semester and is positioned to continue their amazing growth!
